Project overview

The Modular Assembly Joints on the I-90 EB East Channel Bridge were deteriorating and reached the end of their service life. Replacing the existing expansion joints preserved the bridge’s structural integrity and extended its service life.

What to expect

Construction finished in October 2025. Travelers should not expect additional travel delays for this project. 

The eastbound span of the East Channel Bridge on I-90 between Mercer Island and Bellevue, Washington underwent expansion joint repairs from September 18, 2025 to October 5, 2025. Restriping around the failing expansion joint took place March 16, 2024.

The eastbound span of the I-90 East Channel Bridge was opened in 1988. Nearly 75,000 vehicles travel eastbound on the I-90 East Channel Bridge each day.
