I-90 Vantage Bridge – Replace Bridge Deck and Special Repairs

Project overview

This project replaces the existing bridge deck on the I-90 Vantage Bridge to maintain the structural integrity, ensure the safety of the highway and extend the life of the bridge. The Vantage Bridge was built in 1962 and the last time the bridge received a major overhaul was in 1982.

What to expect

Travelers will experience long delays eastbound on Thursdays and Fridays and westbound on Sundays during the summer and are encouraged to choose alternate routes.

The bridge is reduced to one lane in each direction until work wraps for the season on Nov. 1, 2025. All four lanes will reopen for the winter. Starting March 1, 2026, the bridge will return to a single-lane configuration in each direction, except during the busy summer holidays, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day, when all four lanes will be open.

Work to replace the I-90 Vantage bridge started spring 2024.

The bridge deck is showing signs of significant deterioration. Since 2019, WSDOT has discovered over a dozen through-deck holes requiring emergency repairs and lane closures. In 2020, three holes were discovered in one day. Approximately $518,000 has been spent over the last two years to repair the bridge deck, many of which were emergency repairs resulting in multiple travel delays and a total of 85 days of lane closures.
