Project overview
This project will resurface the deteriorating chip seal pavement (due to rutting, cracking and normal wear) with a chip seal overlay. This will extend the service life of the existing pavement.
The project will also develop a Complete Streets analysis for design including providing non-motorized facilities or improving existing facilities. Complete Streets project pre-design will develop options to include bicycle and pedestrian facilities, in accordance with RCW 47.04.035
Not undertaking this project will result in a further deterioration of the road and will result in a failure to address the risks to pedestrians and non-motorized vehicle users encounter when using this stretch of road.
What to expect
Online and in-person listening sessions, online open house(s), media appearances, press releases and travel advisories.
This map shows a stretch of US 97 from Pateros to Brewster, alongside the Columbia River. This stretch will undergo chip-seal repairs and Complete Street improvements.
This section of US 97 is due for rehabilitation. The purpose of this project is to preserve the integrity of the roadway by preventing further deterioration while maintaining at the least possible life cycle cost.
Complete Street analysis will develop alternatives for design though community engagement. The local opinions gathered during WSDOT's community engagement efforts will help the agency determine community needs along this corridor. WSDOT will develop different options and evaluate each one along with the community, in order to select one.
