SR 129 Highland Ave to US 12 and SR 129 Spur – ADA Compliance: Complete Streets

Project overview

This project evaluates upgrades under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Complete Streets initiatives to create a more accessible, comfortable, economical, sustainable, and efficient transportation system along SR 129. However, due to limited preservation funding and the need for statewide project reprioritization, this project has been postponed.

What to expect

SR 129 (Highland Ave and Spur) remains a regional priority and once additional funding becomes available or the project rises in priority, pre-design will resume, which includes reassessing Complete Streets alternatives, engaging with the community and local agencies, and reevaluating current preservation and ADA requirements.

These efforts will provide final recommendations for design and construction. However, current funding and prioritization do not include this project in the next six-year timeline for resuming design work.

This project evaluates upgrades under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Complete Streets initiatives to create a more accessible, comfortable, economical, sustainable, and efficient transportation system along SR 129.

SR 129 is an important north-south corridor for drivers, public transit users, bicyclists, and pedestrians as they travel through Clarkston. WSDOT will evaluate opportunities to improve SR 129 in the future.

The city of Clarkston is building a roundabout at the intersection of US 12 (Bridge Street) and Diagonal Street as part of a separate project.

Complete Streets

This is a Complete Streets project. Complete Streets are designed and operated to support safe use and mobility for all roadway users, including:

  • Drivers
  • Pedestrians
  • Bicyclists
  • Public transportation riders

In 2022, the Washington State Legislature passed Senate Bill 5974, the Move Ahead Washington package. It included a Complete Streets requirement for state transportation projects starting design on or after July 1, 2022, and are $500,000 or more.

A transportation system that accommodates all forms of transportation is more efficient and economical, safer, accessible, and sustainable.
