SR 99 to Eastbound SR 518 On-ramp - Emergency Culvert Repair - Complete October 2024

Project overview

Part of a culvert running underneath the State Route 99 on-ramp to eastbound SR 518 in Tukwila failed, damaging the on-ramp as well as the shoulder along the Airport Expressway on-ramp to eastbound SR 518.

Contractor crews repaired failed section of the culvert to prevent further degradation and then repaved damaged sections of the SR 99 on-ramp to eastbound SR 518. The ramp is expected to reopened in early October 2024.

What to expect

Construction is complete in this location and the SR 99 on-ramp to eastbound SR 518 reopened. No additional traffic control is planned in this location. 

A detour is in place to guide people around the SR 99 on-ramp to eastbound SR 518 in Tukwila, which closed in July 2024 due to a failed culvert. Emergency repairs began Aug. 26. 

Eastbound SR 518 in Tukwila provides access to I-5 and I-405 as well as the Southcenter retail area. It also is a primary route for people exiting Sea-Tac Airport. 

A culvert running beneath SR 518 failed in July 2024, damaging the SR 99 on-ramp to eastbound SR 518 and requiring a long-term closure on the ramp. 

Construction to fix the culvert and damaged sections of the on-ramp began Aug. 26, 2024.
