Planning study news
Thank you for visiting the virtual public online open house and for giving us your feedback. The pre-design study of the intersection at SR 510 and McAllister Court SE/Rockcress Drive SE is complete.
Purpose
To reduce potential crashes, we routinely reviews of rural area intersections on the state highway system. As a result of this review, a roundabout is planned on SR 510 at the intersection of McAllister Court SE/Rockcress Drive SE and remove the existing stop signs. This roundabout will fit within the existing intersection footprint.
Target Zero is the Washington State Department's safety improvement program. It aims to reduce serious and fatal crashes on state highways. The program focuses on two aspects: crash reduction and crash prevention.
WSDOT analyzes locations that are at the highest risk for severe crashes. A systemic analysis is like a health screening for the road system. Once we identify those sections, safety modifications are developed to reduce crash potential by reducing operating speed and conflict points.
Studies show that roundabouts are safer than traditional traffic signals or stop sign-controlled intersections. They accommodate vehicles of various sizes. Roundabouts are more cost efficient to maintain and they reduce injury collisions.
