Planning study news
The SR 702 pre-design study is now complete. Thank you for participating in the online open house that was held August 24 to September 7.
Purpose
WSDOT is replacing the existing two-way stop at the intersection of State Route 702 and 8th Avenue South with a modern roundabout. The intersection currently has stop control on the northbound and southbound legs, and a span wire mounted, four-head flashing beacon. This project will remove the stop signs and beacon system and provide new intersection control with a roundabout that fits within the intersection footprint.
The existing two-way stop intersection of State Route 702 and 8th Avenue South is being replaced with a modern roundabout.
Studies show that roundabouts are safer than traditional traffic signals or stop sign controlled intersections. They accommodate vehicles of various sizes, including emergency vehicles, buses, bicycles, semi-trucks with trailers, and farm and logging equipment.
This roundabout is being funded through the Highway Safety Improvement Program, a federal program that provides funding for needed safety improvement projects.
