What to expect

The construction of the North Spokane Corridor connection to I-90 will be broken into three projects, with the first anticipated to begin in 2027. Completion is expected in the early 2030's as the final link and connection for the North Spokane Corridor.

The three projects are anticipated to be broken into the following stages:

  • Stage 1 - Freya Street to Appleway Avenue local connections, improvements, and ramp structures.
  • Stage 2 - Hamilton Street to Thor Street local connections, improvements, ramp structures, and two roundabouts at Altamont Street. One roundabout will be constructed north of I-90, with the other to the south.
  • Stage 3 - NSC/I-90 interchange structures.

The traveling public can expect closures to various locations on both city streets and I-90 throughout the duration of all three project stages. Closures and detours will be signed and communicated via electronic reader boards, press releases, travel advisories, and social media. Please continue to check this project web page for important travel alerts and sign up for our email distribution for future notification.

Project limits for the I-90 and North Spokane Corridor connection project in Spokane.

This project is part of the North Spokane Corridor project that will build the future US 395 limited access freeway from I-90 up to the Wandermere area in North Spokane. Currently, 5.5 miles of the project are complete with the final 5 miles funded through the Connecting Washington package passed by the legislature in 2015. Generally, projects have worked from north to south along the corridor and will continue until the completion of the North Spokane Corridor in 2029.

Construction began at the north end of the project near Ermina Avenue over the west parking lots at Spokane Community College. Construction has begun on piers 6-10 at the north end of the project. Over the next couple of years, the contractor will build two bridge structures. One will carry the southbound lanes of the North Spokane Corridor, the other will carry the northbound lanes of travel for the North Spokane Corridor.

This is the final project as part of the North Spokane Corridor project. Once completed, the freeway will be fully open along the 10.5 mile corridor.
